Reflection

Technology is a field that is being incorporated into all classrooms all over the world. This may come easily for some teachers, especially new teacher who are most familiar with new technologies. For seasoned teachers, incorporating technology and deviating form their normal classroom routine may be difficult. This is what I have found to be true in my few years of teaching. Regardless, technology in the classroom is the future of education. Incorporating technology into the classroom can be as simple as letting students play an interactive, educational computer games or introducing Smart Boards into the classroom.

My artifact is one way of incorporating technology and collaborative leering into the classroom without going deep into new technologies. The creation of a math game along with computer work allows students to ease into technology in the classroom without being inundated with it. It is a change from the norm, which may yield wonderful results. AlphaSmart laptops are also a wonderful tool in the classroom. My students loved using them to publish their written work. This teachers them skills they would never have learned without using a tool like this. I also found that my younger students felt extremely proud to see their work on the screen and know that they accomplished the task they were instructed to.

Teachers, just like their students, need to be taught how to incorporate new technologies into their classroom. Students can not be expected to use a program or game correctly unless they are taught the proper way. If teachers receive enough training, they may feel comfortable enough to actually enjoy changing their routines and trying something new.
